Description
A watching brief was carried out for the construction of a conservatory in land behind No. 22 Brentgovel Street, which backs onto the Kings Arms. The project included the removal of a concrete slab and the excavation of footing trenches. The trench was c.1m deep from the existing surface. From the reduced level, the natural subsoil of orange silt/sand with gravel was c0.5m from the top of the cut trench. Archaeological levels were intact c.0.2m from the top of the footing, consisting of a green brown sticky loam across the entire site. Four features were visible in th ebase of the trench cut into the natural (S1).
