Description
Prior to housing development trial trench evaluation was carried out following the completion of a fieldwalking survey. Four trenches were excavated, avoiding a gas main and a parking area. All four trenches were parallel to the Roman road and covered an area of 215sqm. Trench 1 seemed heavily disturbed with topsoil 0.7m deep and heavily disturbed soil underneath. In trenches 2,3,4, topsoil was 0.3m deep, sitting on 0.2m of light brown clayey loam subsoil with the natural orange clay at 0.5m in depth (S1).
