Description

2019: A single trench was excavated across the footprint of the proposed development. It was orientated northwest to southeast, and measured 17m long and 1.80m wide. The top of the northwest end of the trench was 42.30m aOD, whilst the top of the southeast end of the trench was 41.90m aOD. The overburden consisted of a c.0.40m thick layer of dark grey-brown, silty sand topsoil, over a layer of subsoil, consisting of mid greyish-brown/reddish-brown silty sand, roughly 0.30m thick. No pre-modern finds were recovered from either deposit, although the topsoil was seen to contain a large amount of recent detritus. Two small modern pits were uncovered, beneath overburden deposits consisting of topsoil and subsoil. No residual finds were recovered from these overburden deposits.
