Description
The development area was trenched to a plan agreed with SCCAS. The trenching was carried out using a medium sized 360 machine equipped with a 1500mm flat bucket which was under archaeological supervision at all times and any indistinct areas were hand cleaned as necessary to improve clarity with the trenches being 1.80m wide. However four trenches (trenches 5, 13, 14 and 17) on the eastern side of the site, where treatment plants and a parking area are to be located, were not opened due to the high water table at the site which precluded any entry of the machine into this area.
