Description

Evaluation trenching for a planned canal pool with associated landscaping on the southern side of a country house of 17th-18th century date and in the possible area of a house pre-dating this period did not reveal any archaeological features and the only stray find of interest was a single sherd of medieval coarseware pottery. Two trenches were excavated, one measuring 19m x 1.8m and the other 5m x 1.8m. The depth to natural was 0.45m however 0.25m of topsoil had already been removed prior to the cutting of the trenches.
