Description

Between 23rd November and 16th December 2020, an archaeological trial trench evaluation was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd on land off Chapel Lane, Wickham Market, Suffolk. The evaluation, which was commissioned by Hopkins Homes Ltd through RPS Group, their archaeological consultant, was carried out to inform a planning decision for the residential development of the site. 76 trenches measuring 30m x 1.8m were excavated. The geology consisted of a firm, light brownish yellow sandy silt or silty sand substrate, directly overlain by a friable, mid to dark reddish-brown sandy silt subsoil. The topsoil consisted of a fark, greyish-brown sandy silt. The subsoil was between 0.1m and 0.8m thick and the topsoil was between 0.2-0.4m thick.
