Description

1995: Archaeological monitoring and excavation was undertaken during the laying of a heating pipe underground within the shceduled area of Campsea Ash Priory. Two 1m boxes were excavated either side of the N-S orientated east cloister wall. Two 0.4m wide trenches were also excavated, the first linking the 1m box to the east of the east cloister wall with the extnat hole to the south of the boiler house, and the second linking the 1m box to the west of the east cloister wall with the point to the west where the pipe would run above the present ground surface. An oil supply trench was also recorded.
