Site Event/Activity record ESF30376 - Evaluation- Land at Bunters Road, Wickhambrook

Twenty-one trenches were excavated across the development area at regular intervals. Topsoil was a consistent dark greyish brown silty clay with very few inclusions or modern artefacts. This had a variable thickness of 0.20–0.33m across the trenches. A subsoil layer up to 0.20m thick, was present in some trenches below the topsoil. This was a mid brown silty clay throughout with no artefacts recovered. There was clearly discernible pattern or concentration to it. Topsoil and, where present, subsoil overlaid the natural deposit of orangey brown clay with chalk inclusions and occasional flints. Some patches of gravel geology were also present in the west of the site.
