Full Description
Alleged siting of PMed flint mines for gunflint industry - "TL 7760 7435 Site of old flint mines (Skertchly's Icklingham Breck)" (S1)(R1). 1962: "An area of disturbed ground, much burrowed by rabbits and showing evidence of having been worked in modern times for the sandy topsoil. Many small flints can be seen upon the surface, but no evidence was found for old flint mines. Two small worked flints were found, probably scrapers" (S1). 1977: "Eroded N-E slope of a sandy knoll denuded of topsoil and extensively burrowed by rabbits ... Measures approx 250m E-W by 50m N-S... No trace of surface digging or mining was visible, though a few random worked flints & some clay pipe stems were found on the surface" (S1).
Probably a 1934 mislocation of IKL 091 to N, possibly continuation of same?
