Full Description
A watching brief on the topsoil stripping for an extension to a gravel quarry revealed traces of settlement. A short rescue excavation using a M.S.C. funded team was mounted to record the features discovered.
A number of interconnecting ditches and associated small pits or postholes were discovered in the SW corner of the site. These contained late C1-C3 grey wares, some Samian and a piece of colour-coated pottery, possibly a Colchester product. A section across a ditch in the middle of the site produced several large sherds of amphorae, however, another section produced some IA sherds (S1).
Details in (S2)(S3) and excavation archive.
