Full Description

Icklingham `The Cardle': "In a `stone kist', presumably in a barrow, was found a contracted skeleton; with it a flat tanged knife or dagger of bronze, 5 inches in length and 5/8 inch wide (plate V), and three hammerstones. The occurrence of such a cist is unique in the district" (S1)(R1).
The Cardle, Icklingham is not located but the Caudle, Caudle Farm, Caudle Head and Caudle Common are located to the N of, and in, the adjoining parish, Eriswell (S2). Possibly Cardle is a misreading/mis-spelling of Caudle and therefore Icklingham is a mislocation.

Formerly recorded as IKL MISC
