Full Description
Rom site detected by scatter in two sand pit exposures. Prigg excavated 5 trial holes in between sand pits in "Aveys Close". Probably IKL 032 but description of location too vague to be certain:- "The waste adjoining Camp Close on the west and between the Plains and the river" (? meaning `the waste' is on the W of Camp Close), IKL 032 is S of The Plains on the 1839 Tithe map. "Examined the broken ground at the W end exposed in two sand pits".
Describes finding "flooring tile", animal bones, oyster shells, brick & pottery. 5 trials "24in x 8in in the flat between the two pits". Sketch plan. Finds included sherds, floor tiles, bones, oyster shells, "a floor of concreted church (clunch?) stones "& (? same) chalky floor" (S1).
Formerly recorded as IKL MISC
