Full Description
Pewter hoard: "The British Museum purchased a further eighteen pewter vessels from a hoard found at Icklingham in 1853 in unrecorded circumstances, four more vessels from the same hoard are in Ipswich Museum. In the same year the BM acquired a bronze cauldron of late Rom date (R1), but it is not known if this was associated" (S1). IPSMG confuses this and the 1839 hoard (CRN 10394) and record the date of discovery as 1852. All were purchased from the Fenton collection & were ex Bateman collection prior to this (S3). For other Icklingham hoards containing pewter, see IKL 019 & 023.
Formerly recorded as IKL MISC
