Full Description

Cross Way Farm. Small rectangular moated enclosure to the S of the existing farmhouse, used as an orchard in 1840. The Tithe Map shows what may have been the NW corner of a second enclosure, enclosing the farmhouse, against the road.
This was a copyhold tenement of the manor of Hitcham called Jodwyns alias Parminters. A Matilda Joldwyne occurs as a tenant of the manor in 1251 (S1) and a John Joldwyne, a Gilbert Joldwine and an Alan Joldewyne appear as taxpayers in Hitcham in 1327 (S2).
