Full Description

Bury St Edmunds town gas works, built 1849 (S1)(R1).
Gasworks built in 1824 according to (S2). Gasworks presently sited at TM 851 648 (& in 1996 on OS map). In 1884 (S3) at TL 852 648 (original site?) and 853 649 (later extension? for gasometers).
Also Med.

Jan 2009: Flint and mortar wall on the line of the northern town wall identified during monitoring. Wall is probably 18th century or later. (S4)

2018: Evaluation identified structural remains contemporary with the former gas works (S5).
