Full Description
Scatter of Roman pottery sherds found in ploughsoil. ? in Ipswich Museum (S1). "Roman pottery and tiles, also Iron Age ... an Anglo Saxon cemetery alleged" (S2) - presumably this is partly confused with
Mill Heath, LKD 001 and LKD 003 (JP).
`RB Samian' sited on BSEMH map by ? Edwardson (S4).
1977: No features or finds made recently, nothing visible on RAF or OS APs (S3).
1980: Box tile fragment found (S5).
Coin found metal detecting, details see (S6).
Further pottery sherds found 2016-2018 (S7)
The site is situated on a high terrace of the River Lark and is at present under plough. No features can be seen in the sandy soil and no finds to suggest occupation were made. Enquiries among the farm workers (a) proved negative and no recent finds have been reported. Nothing is visible on OS AP 76/060/171. The area is named `Lackford Heath' on the Tithe Map of 1842. (S8)
