Full Description
The Hermitage Inn (public house) next to the early C19 iron-built Beccles Bridge stands on the site of a hermitage with a chapel attached, dedicated to St Mary. Little is known historically but it went into decay after the Dissolution. Jervoise stated that in the C15 a legacy was left, the chapel on the "Great Bridge of Beccles", which was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary" was recorded in the mid C15 (S1). Not same chapel as BCC 006.
For Bridges see BCC 022 (Med & PMed).
