Full Description
November 1990: Watching brief on area being stripped of topsoil for new hotel development, adjacent to by-pass and Ransomes Industrial Park. Over West half of site, five or six small pits or scoops noted, circa 0.2m deep into natural, filled with much charcoal and burnt sand, also a few heavily burnt flints, charcoal fragments in pits/scoops still quite solid, but no definite dating evidence (Prehistoric). Stray finds from site - 1 small Prehistoric sherd (Iron Age?), 1 scraper, few flakes, few heavily burnt flints. Also a few small Post Medieval pits with brick & claypipe stem fragments, (S1).
