Monument record BNT 021 - Prehistoric or Roman Ditched trackway and field boundaries.

Pair of parallel sinuous ditches, possibly part of trackway, with associated linear ditches of presumed field system (S1).
A ditched trackway and associated field boundaries of probable prehistoric or Roman date are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs, centred on circa TM11213490, Brantham parish. The tracks are on average about 10m wide with the main axis orientated roughly north-east to south-west. A number of probable field boundaries extend laterally from the central area of the track, with a particularly regular enclosure visible at circa TM11273504. To the northern end of the visible feature, at circa TM11243514, the track appears to branch of in three directions, while to the south at circa TM11133482 it doglegs towards the south-east. The irregular form of much of the track suggests that it is probably later prehistoric or Roman in date. The presence of very regular fields or enclosures may suggest continued use into the Roman period, although a second regular possible enclosure visible to the south east at circa TM11383482 appears to be very crisp and regular and cuts a possible boundary, suggesting it may be significantly later in date. The cropmarks may continue to the north-west, but are obscured by geological features. (S2-S3)
