Full Description

Roman road (part of). Margary 35, Weybread to Peasenhall (S1). Route of Roman road between Weybread and Cratfield. Continuation SE (see HEV 009) to Peasenhall (see PSH 007). Projection of this line to the SE would reach Knodishall, it has always previously been assumed that it joined 34b and turned east to the coast of Dunwich. To the NW the road would join 3d to Caister at Pulham St Mary (S2). Partially under modern road line (B1116, Weybread Street to NW) mostly across fields.
?Crosses Waveney and continues on Norfolk side at Needham - see Norfolk HER.

Taken from NRHE record:
This road seems first to have been identified in the early 20th century, in connection with Antonine Itinerary Iter IX, and has since been generally accepted. Between Peasenhall and Weybread it is a classic example of Roman road survival, with three very straight separate stretches of modern road (one named Weybread Street) maintaining a rigid alignment fo rsome 9 miles. There is however very little supporting evidence: the two terminii have no known Roman settlements. [See OS Linear archive for bibliography 1901-1973 and field investigation reports from 1973, 1974 and 1979].

Customer comment recieved August 2016: IF YOU LOOK AT GOOGLE EARTH THERE IS A VERY POSITIVE CROPMARK LINED UP WITH THE ROMAN ROAD AND SOME OLD HEDGES ON THIS LINE. IT AIMS TOWARDS THE TELEGRAPH POLE BETWEEN THE STREET AND THE CAUSEWAY NEARLY OPPOSITE THE ART GALLERY IF YOU LOOK FROM THE SHOP THE POLE IS TO YOUR RIGHT.
