Full Description
Blundeston Lodge. Demolished, ? during construction of HM Prison in 1962-3. N of Blundeston Decoy. Served by ice-house to SE - BLN 018. Shown on Hodskinson's 1783 map, under ownership (?) of `Miss Allen' (the Allens held property in Blundeston from beginning of C18). The poet, Thomas Gray, several times visited the Rev Norton Nicholls, rector of Lound & Bradwell from 1767-1809, who lived at Blundeston Lodge (S1).
`The mansion has been at different times called Sydnors (R1), Blundeston Villa and Blundeston House' (S2).
`Blundeston House, by Sir John Soane, 1785-6. Very simple, without distinguishing features. Somewhat altered. Alterations and stables by W Oldham Chambers, circa 1865' (S3).
