Full Description

Manorial rectangular ?moat, around C15/C16 Hall Farm, SE end of Town Green. Open only to SW with causeway, wet, 6m wide, 1m deep, rest earthwork hollow. NE side not visible. Close to moat, Withersfield 002, perhaps replacement? (S1).
Hall Farm, timber-framed. The C15 hall is now the barn (P G M Dickinson) (S2).

The published linear feature is situated along a high north
west - south east running ridge, and although partly filled at
its north-west end, still measures 150.0m. long and 10.0m. wide.
A causeway divides the work in two, the south-east half being
water filled, and the other dry 2.5m. deep.

There seems little ground evidence to suggest this ditch formed
part of a complete enclosure and it is more probably an
ornamental feature contemporary with the late 18th century early
19th century house, (S3)
