Monument record SDL 002 - Church of St Margaret

St Margaret's Church, Stradishall, is situated in the centre of the parish. A church is recorded here in the Domesday book. The present church comprises a chancel, nave, aisles, S porch, W tower. It is mainly a Decorated church of various dates, some parts very early & the whole very plain. The clerestory is Perpendicular & there are some modern windows. The fabric is random flint & rubble, with stone dressings. the clerestory & tie-beam roof is C15. The S porch is also C15. The square tower (circa 1300) has a castellated parapet, stone quoins & angle buttresses. The S porch is of rough hewn timber with arched braces. The chancel roof is C20, tiled; only the lower part of the chancel screen remains. A number of traceried panels from the chancel screen have been incorporated into the rectory. There are some C15 poppy-head bench ends. The early C15 octagonal font has carved panels. On the N wall there is the remains of a Med painting of St Christopher (S1).
