Full Description

Warren Lodge marked on an 1835 map of Lakenheath Warren (S1). The site is now part of Lakenheath Airfield, with a mast building (control tower?) on or near its site. Named High Lodge on map of 1813 (S2) and Warren Lodge on OS 1880s and earlier C19 maps.
Probably one of the three existing on Lakenheath Warren by 1649 (S3, 20).
'The old Lodge on Maidscross Hill', already in serious repair in 1845, had apparently become entirely engulfed by the gravel workings, for it was abandoned by 1853. Extensions and improvements made to the Lodges by Duleep Singh in C19. By 1878 the lodge on Maidscross Hill had been rebuilt, the main lodge (LKH 115) repaired and extensive stables & cartsheds provided (S3).

2010: The Breckland Society's survey of The Warrens of Breckland identified perimeter banks of the rabbit warren (LKH 174) and sites of associated lodges. Three lodges are mentioned in the Terrier of 1649 and two of these may have been occupied during the trapping season, with the main lodge located in the center of the warren. See LKH 115 for main lodge and LKH 143 for the other seasonal lodge (S4).

(Cold war control tower recorded under LKH 403)
