Full Description

April/May 1992: Controlled strip of topsoil as result of planning condition revealed series of 11 bronze age pits and a scatter of worked flint and bronze age pottery, including beaker. The pits suggest a small localised occupation, however the hihg level of finds across the excavation area suggests the possibility of a more extensive settlement in the vicinity (S1). Details in (S2).
Also few sherds Rom & Med pottery and Rom(?) coin.

1994 - Ahead of a proposed expansion of gravel quarrying, an area of 1280sqm was stripped by machine under archaeological supervision. Two hearths and two pits were revealed. The hearths comprised of discrete spreads of charcoal combined with concentrations of burnt flints. No other finds were present within the features and so positive dating is not possible. Waste flakes from flint tool manufacturing and a flint scraper were found in the ploughsoil and subsoil. The Bronze Age pits found adjacent to the site in 1992 indicate that it is likely that this evidence could be of a similar date. (S3).
