Full Description
A mill is mentioned in the Domesday survey at Mildenhall.
Three mills are listed at Mildenhall in 1341.
Mill at this location is shown on (S1?)and (S2).
Recently large steam mill (worked by Parker Brothers). 4 storeys, brick. Plaque on small office on roadside states it was rebuilt in 1908. Earlier history not known but probably at least Med in origin.
Mapped area to include all C19/C20 milling complex and meander/leats etc to main midden course of River Lark as on (S2).
Power Station "supplied electricity from 1919 to 1935, after originally set up to provide power for mill. Much equipment ex government surplus at end of WW1, including switch gear, distribution panels, army hut - all survived in 1988 (& possibly still does), together with water turbine and Ruston oil engine, driving 70kw generator" (S3).
February 1997: Power Station being considered for assessment for inclusion in MPP as site of scheduleable quality in `Electric Power (renewables)' group (S3).
