Full Description

Indeterminate cropmarks across the site. Possibly something linear extending across from SUE 008 (S1).
Also Preh, IA, Rom & Med.

The cropmarks are of military works of World War II date, visible on 1943 (S2) and 1945 (S3) photography. The features comprise a strongpoint with two trench systems (and associated bunkers ?) and a number of small sections of trench and associated features, within a number of belts of barbed wire, all located around TM 438543. A number of craters are also visible across the site. The south side of the Alde estuary was used for armoured vehicle training during World War II and it is unclear if these features were constructed for that purpose or for invasion defence.
