Full Description

A church is recorded at Bruisyard in the Domesday Survey of 1086. St Peter's Church has plain round W tower and simple Norman door N of nave. Hanoverian Arms in S porch. Traditional C15 font and simple arch-braced nave roof with very high collar. C16 chapel (S1)(S2).
S transept, now used as vestry, built in Elizabethan times, incorporates material from the Nunnery of the Poor Clares at Bruisyard (BUD 001). Two brasses of duchesses of the House of Plantaganet, who died at the Nunnery, are in the nave floor (S3).
