Full Description

Canal, cut by 1789 (S2), to avoid meander of River Lark at Swales Fen, following drainage Acts of 1759 & 1772. Not shown on Hodskinsons map of 1783 but present on OS 1st edition of 1836 (S1).
For iron cavalry sword, reputed to have been found during original excavation of `New Cut' see MNL Misc (CRN 11738).
