Full Description

A bronze purse bar length 8.2cm was donated to Moyses Hall Museum in 1984 by the finder (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s), 15 Mountbatten Close, Sudbury. Found with a metal detector. It dates from C15 or early C16. It is L-shaped in cross section and decorated on one external face with an incised zig-zag of double lines. Some of the lines showed traces of a silvery black metal before cleaning of which nothing remains.
It was examined and dated by J Cherry of the British Museum (S1). Similar to another purse bar BSEMH 1984-101B (LMD Misc).
Formerly recorded as ALP MISC.
