Full Description
Large long mound on E side and parallel to (2WW?) concrete roadway. Circa 75m S of large sub-circular mound, ELV 031. Dimensions: circa 40m by 20m and 3m high, slightly higher at N end. Has circa 40-50(?) year old pine trees and circa 25 year old oak tree growing on mound and extensive nettle growth, especially on S half (S1). True location needs checking but appears to overlay(?) trackway shown on OS 1:10.560 & 1:10,000 maps (S2). This factor, the alignment and condition of the mound, suggest it is comparatively (note age of trees) recent, possibly connected to the use of Warren Wood as an ammunition dump in the 2nd World War.
October 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The earthworks of this previously recorded elongated mound are clearly visible on the 0.5m resolution Lidar data (S1). Although, as suggested above, the relationship with tracks of post medieval date and it therefore likely to be twentieth century date. See above the suggestion that it relates to Second World War activity.
