Full Description

Short length of probable trackway, running N-S in field adjacent & E of possible rectangular enclosure. Next to area of Rom finds scatter, WLD 012. Other nearby cropmarks unclear but continue into field to S and also across road to W (WLD 017). (S1)
A possible Later Prehistoric or Roman ditched field system is visible on aerial photographs as cropmarks, centred on TM 28364391. The field system consists of a possible trackway or double-ditched boundary which run roughly north to south from TM 28334398 to TM 28354380, possible rectilinear ditched enclosures, centred on TM 28304395 and TM 28334382 and a number of other linear features, which are presumably field boundaries. Most of the components of the field system are on the same north-south and east-west alignment as the cropmarks in the field to the west (WLD 017) and are most likely to be part of the same extensive field system. The field system is probably of Later Prehistoric or Roman date. (S2) (S3)
Fieldwalked as part of SE Suffolk survey - details to follow.

1999: Monitoring of new water mains revealed a ditch, probably part of this cropmark complex. E-W aligned, 400mm wide and 400mm deep with a fill of mid brown sand. 2 probable prehistoric pottery sherds recovered from its fill. Ditch seen at TM 2827 4392. Also another E-W ditch was recorded at TM 2828 4389. 600mm wide by 500mm deep and contained one med pottery sherd. Possibly also part of this complex. Flint and pottery finds identified along other parts of the pipeline, see HMY XXX and HMY XXXX (S4).
