Full Description
Grove Park, Yoxford. Park (shown on Hodskinsons 1783 map) includes fish pond, ice-house, walled garden & coach house (S1). The house is described as `Red brick. Seven-bay garden front of two storeys with three-bay pediment. The entrance side round the corner has a recessed three-bay centre with pediment and two wings of two bays projecting by one bay. Porch with two Tuscan columns of cast iron' (S2).
History of house (the original, from circa 1500?, known as 'Burtons', was 'always one of the most important houses in the parish' and 'stood further south and west, approximately where the present kitchen garden is now' - from notes by 'The Suffolk Archaeological Society' in 1907 according to S3), ownership and details of park and gardens in (S3).
Mapping in HBSMR after Hodskinson's 1783 map (S4), park later reduced in area (S3).
