Monument record TMM 006 - Thornham Park; Thornham Hall

Thornham Park & Hall. Thornham Park & Hall. Park Thje Hall is believed to be a 16th century 'E' shaped house extensively modernised in the late 17th and 19th centuries. The park is believed to be 17th or early 18th century in date (S4).
Park delineated on HER map after 1844 tithe map (also see earlier 1765 estate map which shows park pale and excluded church and road to S which were later emparked) (S4); this excludes later extensions to the N, E & W (?) - see, for example, the OS 1880s map. Details to follow in (R1). Includes stables or walled garden N of hall and addition of `Old Drive' and linking pre railroad drive line to `Parkway Lodge' to W (on tithe map) and emparked area of church (TMM 005) , which were not emparked in 1765 (S4).
Hall said to be C15/C16 mansion with park of 300/400 acres and gardens of 25 acres. Portraits of hall in record office (S2).
