Full Description
An elderwood wand (witch's wand ?) was found in the house of David Ross Hanner, Woodsend, Copdock. The wand is 35.6cm long and is split with a knife at one end to form a wedge. It is made from a side branch and the junction with the main stem is whittled on one side to form a knob. Several knife-cut notches can be seen on the stem below the knob. It was found with a sheep's leg bone (S1).
The bone is the lower part of the leg and hoof of a sheep with some hide still attached, there is no fleece. It was identified by Norma Chapman (Mildenhall Museum) as "Sheep almost certainly. Other possibility (but seems too short) is goat". Information per Timothy Easton (S2).
Formerly recorded as COP MISC
