Full Description
Thurston (Thurstruston) Park, former deer park. Noted on map by Rackham (S1) as existing prior to 1536. Only surviving element by time of tithe apportionment in 1841 was `Thurston Park', which is listed as a coppice, and is now even more reduced in area although surviving part mapped as still wooded (S2). Other areas suggested as part of park by field names, i.e. plot 227 was First Lawn, plot 228 Further Lawn, 233 Ten acre Park, 234 Thirteen acre park and 255 Thurston park wood. Full extent not known without further research. Loosely defined on HER map after Hodskinson (S3), although originally probably extended further (to E especially - note Boxstead Lodge Farm at TL 810 516).
