Full Description
Roman pottery scatter found fieldwalking prior to evaluation of proposed bypass route.
August 1994: evaluation trenching revealed further Roman pottery, Roman (?) ditches and a grave containing a decapitated (with a knife, from both front and back), probably post-mortem, female, probably of middle age. Two radiocarbon dates suggested a date between 360BC & 10 AD (OxA-5774, 95.4% probable) and 90BC & 220AD (OxA10833,95.4% probable with a pre 100AD date being most likely). (S2)
2014 - Samples from the inhumation was sent for redating by radiocarbon dateing to rule out a possible contamination. Two dates were returned suggesting a date between 240BC & 10 AD (OxA-5774, 95.4% probable) and 60BC & 220AD (OxA10833, 95.4% probable) (S3).
