Full Description
An ? Edward II (1307-1327) silver farthing, diameter 1.1cm was presented to Moyses Hall Museum in 1984 as part of the Harley Collection. On the obverse side of the coin the legend is illegible, but there is a portrait bust within the inner circle. On the reverse side there is a long cross pattee with three pellets in each angle; CIVI/TAS/L (?ON/DON) is also written on the reverse side.
A label associated with this coin says "Edward VI half penny silver? debased. From Chapel Field, Blythborough" (S1)
The label's claim that this is an Edward VI half penny is unlikely to be true. The coin is much more likely to date from the reign of Edward II. The long cross was not used on coins dating from the reign of Edward VI.
