January 2016. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme.
The ring ditch described above, which probably marks the site of a Bronze Age round barrow, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S2)-(S3). NMP mapping has led to the alteration of the central grid reference of the site from TM 3188 4427 to TM 3188 4433. It lies approximately 750m to the southwest of a much larger group of ring ditches and possible hengiform monuments at Home Whin Farm (STT 064). Traces of a possible internal ring ditch and bank are visible within the main ring ditch, the diameter of which is approximately 20m rather than 25m as stated above. A second ring ditch is visible 275m to the south (STT 070). Cropmarks of multi-period field systems and possibly settlement surrounding the site (STT 076) show some signs of respecting the ring ditch in their layout, suggesting that the site still survived as an earthwork when they were laid out.
