Full Description

Entry in Domesday Survey of 1086. A seaport (i portus maris)(4146). Presumably on tidal estuary. Possibly South Cove SCV 001, for discussion see (S2).
Research in 2005, by Felicity Hillier, suggest that the likely location of the Domesday port and (pre 1086) salthouse was on the west side of the present stream between Keith's Wood and Sandhole Covert near the 5m contour line. Details in (S3), in parish file.
Ports are very rarely recorded in the Domesday survey perhaps suggesting this was significant.

Formerly recorded as FOS MISC
