Full Description

Possible barrow on Thetford Heath. Seen from c.50m through light coniferous plantation, the dimensions are approximately 3m high and 25m wide. Distinct mound in an otherwise level area. Didn't look modern (S1).

January 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
No definite sign of a barrow mound has been recognised on the aerial photographs at this location. However the site of a probable First World War bunker or similar fieldwork has been recorded (BNH 113). The earthworks are also dug into boundary banks of probable post medieval date (BNH 053). The features is likely to be associated with the First World War camp, Barnham Camp (BNH 054) record for details. The site has a rounded mound profile to the north, so if viewed through plantation from the road to the north, it may have had the appearance of a barrow mound. Although it is feasible that the barrow and this First World War fieldwork do not represent the same earthworks.
