Full Description

Cowles' farmhouse and buildings marked on OS 1st edition map and named on 1904 map (S1)(S2).
Destroyed during (?) 2nd world war airfield construction.

Cropmarks of two post medieval farms - Rose's Farm (TM 13420 63578) and Cowles Farm (TM 13670 63732) and adjacent White Barn (TM 12973 63775), and traces of the former field boundaries between lie within the boundaries of Mendlesham Airfield. The remains of these farms can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 2015 as part of the Historic England Reconnaissance Recording programme, and are present on the 1st edition OS map.(S3)
