Monument record ELV 038 - Old Bank (1848 tithe), Elveden Warren

Please read our .

Summary

A post medieval bank, named ‘Old Bank’ is depicted on a 19th century map, and is also visible as an earthwork on imagery from a 2015 lidar survey. It lies within Elveden Warren (SHER ELV 039), and may be a warren-related feature. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently, it is probable that the earthworks still survive.

Full Description

Tithe map shows long narrow (bank?) 9 & 21 which are named as `Old Bank' (S1). Presumably relating to rabbit warren, ELV 039.
Also see ELV 035 & 036 for smaller warren enclosure and warren lodge. Further (related?) banks probably survive, as shown on 1:10,000 OS map and tithe map, but survey needed to confirm.

January 2019. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The earthwork bank described above, which is presumably of post medieval date, is visible on imagery from a 2015 lidar survey (S2-S3). Single, double and triple banks are evident at various points along its length. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently, it is probable that the earthwork still survives.
