Full Description
Fine silver finger ring with toadstone setting. Inscribed - translation `Jesus of Nazareth King (of the Jews)' and abbreviated Jasper, Melchior and Baltasar. Mid C14 or later. Rings with such inscriptions were seen as a cure for cramp and epilepsy. Details and photographs in file (S1).
Findspot withheld. Originally stated to be from the gardens of a house with an orchard on the Sudbury side of (& within) Bury St Edmunds (S1). Now claimed to be from (one of the) Bradfield(s), i.e. Bradfield Combust/St Clare/St George (S2).
