Full Description
Cropmark of ring ditch/small circular enclosure, circa 35m diameter (S1) in valley of River Glem by road.
May 2026. South-West Suffolk Claylands Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AI&M) Project.
The partial circular enclosure or ring ditch of unknown date described above is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S2-S3). The enclosure measures at least 30m in diameter. A possible smaller ring ditch (SHER HWN B) is also visible immediately adjacent to its east. A prehistoric date for both sites is feasible but not certain. For example, the larger enclosure or ring ditch is large enough to be the encircling ditch of a Bronze Age round barrow, but the diameter of the smaller ring ditch (11m) is more typical of a round house.
