Full Description
Series of cropmarks, mainly geological but including three adjoining rectangular small fields/plots of circa 60m by 30m. Various other linear and curving lines include possible ring ditches - see (S1) for details.
Probable ditched enclosures of unknown date and function are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs, centred on TM 18593468 to the east of Shore Lane in Harkstead. These include a square enclosure measuring 32m by 32m centred on TM 18573471. A possible entrance is visible on the north-east side of the enclosure. To the south-east of the square enclosure, the partial cropmark of two adjoining rectilinear enclosures is visible. The more complete enclosure to the east encloses an area measuring 50m by at least 26m. The western end of the rectilinear enclosures appears to cross the square enclosure ditch suggesting that the square and rectangular enclosures are not contemporary. Two pits are visible within the eastern rectilinear enclosure, centred on TM 18613468. The date and function of these pits are unclear and they may be of natural origin as there is a significant amount of geological patterning within the field. (S1-S3)
