Full Description

Cropmarks including small (c.20m x 20m) square enclosure, trackway(?) and various field boundaries (S1).
Extensive ditched field boundaries and a small enclosure of possible medieval or earlier date are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs to the east of Trimley St Martin Primary School, Trimley St Martin parish, centred on TM27913834. The field boundaries are loosely coaxial, their main axis being roughly north-south as seen in a trackway intermittently visible for nearly 700 metres, centred on circa TM27673845. Probable ditched field boundaries can be seen adjoining western side of the track and as separate cropmarks to the east of the track. A small square ditched feature, possibly an enclosure about 8 metres wide, can be seen at TM27653861. It is clear from examining the first and second editions of the Ordnance survey maps that many of these features were associated with phases of enclosure prior to finalising of the modern boundaries, possibly in the medieval period. Two ditched trackways of possible earlier date can bee seen on a south-west to north-east orientation, at circa TM27973827. (S1-S7)
