Full Description

January 2000: Archaeological Evaluation identified features mostly visible on the Tithe Map and early edition of the Ordnacne Survey maps including field boundaries and a series of tement plots, with associated buildings, along the eastern edge of the site. Other features that could not be related to documetnary sources, alogn the western edge of the site, included a possisble prehistoric ditch, a ditch of unknown date, and a circular, chalk line strcuture of indeterminate function, with an associated pit. The pit containe sherds of early medieval coarseware pottery and a post medieval handmade iron nail (S1).

Also prolific worked flint scatter collected by the late Mr Bertie Edwards of the Post Office in Aldringham who died in the late 1950s (see ARG 061)(S2, in parish file).

2001:Monitoring revealed evidence for medieval and 15th-17th century activity in a band across the eastern part of the site. The grenn edge was also apparently located. The evidence of the monitoring and evaluation suggestes that the green had lost its identity by the late 18th century when settlement re-focuses on the lanes and roads in the area. Some evidence for a more substantial brick built medieval structure close to the green-edge (S3)
