Full Description

The church lies in the diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, the archdeaconry of Sudbury and the deanery of Lavenham. Status: rectory (S1) The structure is: chancel, nave, S aisle, N aisle, W tower, S Porch. (S1) The chancel is Decorated, the nave is Perpendicular, the arcades are Decorated, the S porch is Perpendicular and the W tower dates from circa 1694. (S2)
The E window in the chancel is modern, dating from 1872. Built in beside the door to the N of the nave is a piece of stone which is probably the lower part of the shaft of the churchyard cross placed upside down. The rood screen is C15. The pulpit stands upon an altar tomb or stone which probably dates from the early or mid C14. The font is C12/C13; an octagon in the early English style. The S aisle contains Perpendicular windows. Two of the windows in the N aisle are Decorated, the others are Perpendicular. W tower is square and of red brick. The S porch was rebuilt in 1872; it contains a C14 stoup. (S2)
The restoration of the church 1866 - 1867 was carried out by Edward Hokewill. It resulted in a new roof for the nave and aisles and a new pulpit. Open benches were installed and the rood screen was restored to its proper place in the church. (S2)
