Full Description
April 1999: Neolithic pit and two BA features excavated during trenched evaluation. Details in (S1).
April 2002 - Feb 2003: Excavation of two areas revealed natural features with Mes, BA and other Preh finds, LNeo/BA ditch, Neo pit and other dispersed Preh features (S2).
A series of trial trenches at the bottom end of an arable field, off Low Road, revealed a plough soil with Roman and Middle Saxon finds buried beneath hillwash. There was a Neolithic pit close to the road and two Bronze Age features were excavated at the N.W. end of the field. These appear to be fairly isolated and there is compelling evidence of agricultural erosion particularly towards the top of the slope. The occupation debris in the buried plough soil may be related to Roman and Early Medieval settlement on the high-ground overlooking the site, for which there is good evidence. Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 1999 (S3).
